Update (James): Russ Feingold’s PAC is itching to give away $5000 to one of 10 lucky House candidates.  Feel free to cast your informed vote to determine who gets a piece of Feingold’s booty.

  1. I voted for Perriello. I figured he was the guy on the list who could be helped the most by $5K. The rest are in rather good positions fundraising-wise (swing seats or open seats).

  2. Now that our various and at-times contentious primaries are over in Indiana, it’s time for all of us here to realize the importance of electing Jill Long Thompson our next governor.  It’s not going to be easy — Mitch Daniels has a ton of money, the state is running a surplus, and anger over toll roads and daylight saving time seems to have simmered down (but not gone away).  Still, there is a solid case to be made against him, and I hope JLT’s got what it takes to make it.

So why is this important nationally (beyond the fact that we all want to always seem Democrats win)?  Who wins this race will determine which party controls congressional redistricting after 2010.  Right now we have a very Democrat-friendly map that I would love to see stay just the way it is.  But a little Republican tweaking here and there could get rid of two or even three seats:

If the Republicans are only a little bit sneaky, they could move Bloomington back to IN08 and swap it for conservative rural areas – and good-bye Congressman Baron Hill.

If the Republicans are a little bit more sneaky, they could redraw IN01 to include everything from Gary to South Bend into one uber-Democratic district, gutting IN02 of it’s Democratic base — and good-bye Congressman Joe Donnelly.

If the Republicans act like the evil, meanspirited MF’rs we know they can be, they’ll try something that’s been whispered about for a long time here — carving up IN07, essentially putting large parts of Indianapolis into 2 or 3 Congressional districts, and not having one district located only within the city.

  3. Are TX and my home state of FL.  Republicans are likely to have total control of these two states which combined may get as many as 7-8 new districts.  No way we will control any branch of the FL redistricting panel barring a major republican scandel in this state.  TX we do have a shot at the state house which could foil their plans.  Both TX and FL are easy states to gerrymander with their high populations of black and hispanic voters.

On the other hand taking control of redistricting in other large states such as OH, CA, NY, and MI could offset losses in FL and TX.  However, if we go into 2012 with a ridiculous 26-3 of 27-2 advantage in NY we’ll have no choice but to lose 2 Dem held seats.

    1. Barth is facing Richie Robb in the Democratic Primary, because Robb went from Republican to Democrat in 2005 (and lost the 2006 primary for the same seat)

As for the 12 candidate race for HOD seat 19, that’s a primary.

  4. and now to wait for ME, the last of the races that’s supposed to be competitive.

And in the meantime, we (as in us activists) will work on OK, AK, ID, and NE.

  5. Is it Tuesday yet. Its been a LONG, horrible weekend. lol I could use some election results to help break up the day. lol

  6. They were all good choices and Periello was my runner up, but I voted for Larry Kissell because he came so close last time and needs the money. This is the year for him to push across the finish line. If we don’t help him do it this cycle he won’t get another shot at it. He’s be a terrific Congressman, a working guy with horse sense and good Democratic values.
